Hidden Shell

ust imagine a sunny cold Saturday morning in New York. You decide to get the family together and treat everyone to breakfast at your favorite diner. You go there often so you are greeted at the door and seated immediately in your favorite booth served by your favorite waiter. Immediately they bring your coffee and your cream on the side because they know you don’t like milk in your coffee. The conversation between your husband and the kids are going about what they should eat

You are just day dreaming about corn beef hash crispy just the way you like it. Grits cooked to perfection and topped off with cheese eggs. The waitress finally comes and takes the order. You wait patiently and before you know it she’s back with your food. You start to dig in. Yes the corn beef hash is crispy. The grits are perfectly cooked and the cheese eggs are light and cheesy. This the best Saturday breakfast ever you think to yourself. By this time you are on your fourth spoon full and it happens. THAT CRUNCH!!!!! Corn beef hash is soft food so the crunch didn’t come from there. Grits are creamy so the crunch couldn’t come from there. THERE’S AN EGGSHELL IN YOUR EGGS!!! You are scared to chew because the crunch turns your stomach. You quickly grab a napkin to spit the food in. You close your mouth a find there is still some eggshell in your teeth. You start to gag and your mouth starts to salivate. You grab another napkin and spit in it; by this time you are sweating and ready to just go home.

That is exactly how I feel every time I find eggshells in my egg. I can’t explain to you why the texture of eggshells bothers me so much but I go through all of those emotions when it does happen.

  1. I hate that too!! Although it doesn't bother me nearly as much as you but it still sucks when it happens! I hope it never happens again to you.

  3. This was a fun post. It was interesting the way you wrote is as if it was happening to the reader. Great reactions. I never would have thought of this, though I'm not a fan of finding eggshells either. It's so unsettling to find an unwelcome texture where you don't expect it.
